Earth Storage, 2023
The storage of food and seeds underground is an ancient tradition among Native Nations of the Americas. Taking advantage of even temperatures below ground and the ability to hide resources from view, these traditions have proven to be important lifelines in historical moments of crisis.

A Manual
Together with Braiding the Sacred, a network of indigenous corn growers, this research was developed to provide its members with knowledge and tools that bridge traditional means of construction with contemporary knowledge to build underground storage spaces that protect and contain community resources.
Working with earth as the main construction material suggests a method that is affordable, regenerative and can be build with basic equipment, local materials and community labor. Download the complete manual for underground storage here.
In 2024, we began construction on a farm of the Onondaga Nation in Syracuse, New York to house the farm’s community food supply as well as its collection of Native Corn seeds.
