Future Maker/s Future Market/s, 2017
Future Maker/s Future Market/s developed strategies to engage residents of refugee shelters in Berlin Lichtenberg to share their talents, skills and knowledge with each other and the larger community. After the influx of refugees to Germany in 2015, Lichtenberg housed the largest number of refugees of all districts in Berlin, yet its predominant urban fabric of “Plattenbau”, prefab housing slabs built in the second half of the 20th century, is not conducive as an “Arrival City”, a place where newcomers find resources to start their new lives.
In collaboration with Katharina Rohde and Oliver Spreckelsen, this concept was conceived as a competition entry for Place and Displacement: A Marketplace in Refugee Settlements and further developed as an international workshop in September 2017 in Berlin.
