What If NYC?
Competition // 2007
Unfolding a Community is a design response to the lessons learned from hurricane Katrina in 2005, where thousands of residents of New Orleans not only lost their homes, but their schools, jobs, hospitals and basic services. Disasters like Katrina occur more frequently all over the world and put families into the difficult situation of temporary homelessness and instability. This project provides a rapidly deployable system of temporary housing units for the time period of rebuilding together with necessary infrastructure such as day care facilities, local retail, homebuilding and insurance assistance. In addition, New York City, the speculative site for this proposal required multiple density scenarios to provide maximum flexibility in a city, where space is rare. This project was created in collaboration with MANIFOLD.Architecture Studio
